About

The Richmond Tenants Union is made up of organized tenants who are united to take collective action against the exploitation by landlords – including rising rents, substandard housing conditions, and evictions.

Our model is to unionize all Richmond tenants through the formation of neighborhood tenant councils and tenant associations in every building and residential block. Neighborhood Council Map

We believe housing is a human right that should not be commodified by landlords, but rather a community-owned and managed resource ensuring dignified, safe, and secure housing for all. Our Strategy

Membership

Members can choose their level of involvement and degree of proximity, ensuring everyone has a role in building tenant power. Active Members help keep the union running by attending monthly citywide meetings, joining working groups and organizing projects, and planning direct actions. Supporting Members contribute through financial support, resource-sharing, solidarity networks, showing up for direct action calls, or other means that sustain RTU’s work. Members can be Active or Supporting with the Citywide Union, Neighborhood Council, or Building/Block Association. Learn more about Membership
